Lincoln Green Neighborhood Park
Burnham Green and Shrewsberry Roads
In 2004 the Springfield
Township Trustees purchased land from the Lucas County Commissioners for $1.00.
The Trustees decided the former pumping station should be turned in to a park. A
contest was held in order to name the park. Thomas Puhl, who lives in the
Lincoln Green area submitted the winning name, Lincoln Green
Neighborhood Park.
In March, 2005 Township Road Maintenance crews worked to demolish the old
pumping station and level the area.
A $35,000 grant was received from Lucas County Waste Management to develop the
park. Playground equipment must be made of recycled materials. The Lucas County
Metroparks assisted with a preliminary park design.
Walnut
Grove Playground Co. was awarded the bid for playground equipment and park
design. Walnut Grove Playground Co. was awarded the bid for playground equipment
and park design.
After a week of hard work in soaring temperatures, the main playground area
is assembled. The park's grand opening ceremony was held on October 1st with
County Commissioner's, Township Officials and Employees in attendance. Over 100
people from the Lincoln Green Neighborhood also came out to enjoy refreshments
provided by Lowe's Home Improvement Store and the Springfield Township Trustees.
This park is not a large park but ever inch of it is well used. A walking
trail that is about a half mile is on the out edge of the park. A small shelter
house is located at the east end of Burnham Green.
Right
beside it is a playground area that seems to always have some children playing.
Benches are located all around the walking trail and in the playground and
shelter house.
