Fiscal Officer:
Debbie Carpenter is Springfield
Township's newly appointed Fiscal Officer, effective 5:01 p.m. on 2/23/2007.
Debbie resides in Springfield Township with her family. With an extensive
accounting background, she served as fiscal assistant to the previous fiscal
officer.
As
Fiscal Officer, one of my responsibilities is to maintain a budget that is
fiscally responsible yet allows us to provide necessary and desirable services
to residents. As you can see, approximately 50% of our budget is used to provide
fire and EMS services to our community. Additionally in 2006, Springfield
Township purchased a leaf machine, a dump truck, a lawn mower, made improvements
to the parks, and purchased two-way radios for the regional interoperable
communications system for Fire/EMS.
In addition to the traditional sources of revenue, Springfield Township receives
income from services our Fire Department provides to the Village of Holland,
grants for natural resources and/or recycling efforts, as well as interest
earned on our bank account. As a township, however, we do not have an income
tax. In an effort to use our resources as responsibly as possible we researched
and implemented an investment plan that will keep adequate funds liquid while
getting the most effective return on our money. The 2006 financial reports can
be made available by contacting Debbie Carpenter, at the Springfield Township
Offices.

Sue Nehls was hired in March, 2007 as the new assistant to the Fiscal
Officer, Debbie Carpenter. Sue lives in the Toledo area with her husband Barry
and son Allan. Sue comes to the township with great bookkeeping skills and is
very attentive in all tasks presented to her. Sue currently handles coding the
bills for payment and is helping a great deal with the lighting district
assessments and entering payroll for processing. Sue is a pleasure to have
working at the township, stop in and say hello to Sue when you have a chance.
